We had been on air for some years already (2 years to be correct) and already played Indies on the station. I started to research Indie Music in October/November 2018. It was for TFSC a total change.
In all honesty I got tired of playing the same mainstream songs, sounding like millions of other stations. After researching I found tons of platforms for Indie Music. Man I was in heaven. All that good music I have never heard before. I had to start playing Indie Music.
The First Months In The Indie Scene
I totally enjoyed the first months researching and descovering new music on Bandcamp, CD Baby and Reverbnation. I even discovered bands which are still a big part of the TFSC Family. Swilly, Tough On Fridays and yes even our Artist Of The Year Nine Year Sister. Those two ladies opened a door for me. I realized there is more than Rock, Punk or Metal music. The Pop, Folk and so many other genres are also very very amazing in the Indie Scene. So I even was searching for all kind of genres. That was the moment I discovered Mikalyn and oh man so many more! I could spend hours of lining up all those amazing artists and bands. But before I keep talking, I show you the songs by Nine Year Sister and Mikalyn which I heard as a first!
Nine Year Sister
The voices of Jennie and Emma already caught my attention. They have magic! NYS can make you dream away in another world, ah what do I say they transfer you in a wonderful, colorful different galaxy! Who would have thought to what this discovery had lead. Twice Artist Of The Year, I got a job as Tour Bus Driver and Emma created a peanut cappucino. Jennie and Emma are one big example how happy I am that I have joined the Indie Scene and met such wonderful people like them!
Mikalyn
Mikalyn totally got me excited with her music from the start. She found out that I play her and started to submit music too. Every new song totally got me excited. To see her getting more and more popular and rocking more the indie scene really makes very happy. Those are the things which I love in the indie scene. Seeing the artists grow and more popular!
The First Submission
In April 2019 something pretty weird happened. Well at least for me! A band messaged me on Twitter if they could send over their music for me to play it on the station. I was like Whaaaaat? A musician wants me to play their music?
For me as a music nerd that was a highlight. I was able to talk to an artist. I was able to give them feedback directly. This got me totally excited. After this “first contact” I recieved more and more submissions. Jackob was so kind to spread the word. In this time I met a lot of cool artists and trust me I was still in heaven. I mean I was able to talk to Man eat Grass, Tom, Kittenhead, Clare Estelle, The Shrubs, The Incurables, Silence The Crow, The Cranberry Merchants, Edens End, Creative Reader, Portobello Express, Manomachine, Allison Leah, Meghan Pulles, Jill Winter, Sonia D and all the cool guys! Somehow this simply felt like a cool family. And yes that was the start of the TFSC Family! Manomachine designed a logo for it, Silence the Crow a hashtag and talking about a hashtag even Betty invented the #TalesOfOli hashtag! I still kept researching and discovered those cool guys like The X-Friends, Madison Olds and Kireina Michan and so many more!
So now more music before I keep talking too much. The very first submission of Indie Butterflies Dream and what about Maddies song!

Madison Olds
One of those songs which left me speechless because it is simply amazing. “Sad” part of this, I didnt find this song anywhere to download, so I reached out to Maddie on Twitter. I told her I need this song on the station. Somehow she first thought I fool her because she doesn’t believe she isnt that good. Unbelievable right? But yeah I got her to submit the music, she also became an Artist Of The Year and heck look where she is now. She rocks so much!
Until Now
Until now I have recieved thousands of submissions. If I remember right we have lately reached 20000 songs on the station. Thats for me still unbelievable. I am really happy and proud to have met each artist. This wide range of music I was able to listen to. And they all are amazing. Starting with Sadie Fine going to Ruby Moss, Fedras, I See Orange, Thanks Mom, Storm of Crows, Revivalry, Slackrr, Moonlight Eclipse, pMad and ah I could go on for hours again. Trust me they are all worth it. United Duality, In Between, Gallagher, Dayna Jordynne, Brooke Surgener, Late July to name some more.
Lol ok ok I stop it. Really I am simply happy and in heaven. Thankful for all the music I have recieved as submission and for me even more important, the chats, the jokes, the fun!

I was thinking to do a show for this 5 years anniversary. Line up my favorites and all that. But hey this show would last for weeks. There are so many fav songs, I simply cant leave out one! So maybe better not! To end this article, I’ll show you one more song which caught my attention very fast. Ok maybe two songs! By two wonderful artists/bands. So enjoy them, enjoy the indie music and keep supporting our indies. They deserve it!
