I thing I always wanted to write about. It is important to be yourself and not always try to please to algorhythm or even listen to one of those “marketing gurus”! Even not to listen or check how others do it. Do it like you feel it is the right way. Don’t join anything just because someone told you it is important to gain more listeners or whatever! Here I show you some simple things I have done because I thought it is for me right and not for those specialists!
Leaving Twitter
I have thought about leaving the x blue bird since someone certain took over. I heard often “Ooh you can’t leave your 42k followers!”, “It is important and still the best place for indie music” and so on.
Well I have to say it was the right step for me. I didn’t lose listeners. We are still here and pretty alive. Already the statistic overthere showed me not many have seen the latest tweets, the interactions dropped a lot the last months we were there. Trust me without the x blue bird I even feel better. Less annoying things, it gave me personally a big push to work on the station even more!
Don’t Post More Than 2 – 3 Pictures on Instagram
Another thing which is (at least for me) wrong. A lot of those “marketing gurus” say you lose traffic and engagement when you post more often. For me I have to say it is another wrong point. I used to post 2 – 3 pictures and that was it. During the countdown there were a lot more and now with the Tales Of Oli too. I don’t disappear in the nirvana of the algorhythm. What I have noticed thanks to the statistic on Instagram, thanks to posting more I get more profile views. Which could mean you might get shown a bit less, but those who are interested in the stuff you create will visit your proflie more often.
So again be yourself, do what you want, those who like your creations will find you and follow you.
Facebook Isn’t Good For Playlist Shoutouts!
Well another thing the “marketing gurus” are wrong. Since I have quit Twitter, I do those shoutouts on Facebook! And tada since then the followers number went up from 800 to more than 1700 in 3 months. The engagement got up from 200 to 15000. Hmm so much about that. Really do what you think is right and not others!
Don’t Play Too Many Different Genres
This is one thing I got told often. It would be important to focus on 2 or 3 genres or you won’t have any listeners. Well look at our programm. We play everything and tada we still have listeners and no listeners drop at all!
By the way thank you to all of our listeners. You and the artists are the reason to keep me going!
In The End You Must Be Happy
Thats what I say. When you love what you do and you are really happy about it, you might get those interactions you want. When you show yourself to the world, the world loves it more than to be another clone of what “marketing gurus” say. You might get seen more, but you won’t get noticed more.
So yes thats for today! I could go on with some more examples but I guess you get what I mean. Oh one personal note: This doesn’t mean you have to leave everything because I said it, no no, it simply means all those things have been good for me. You might feel different about certain platforms or what else. So do what you want to do and don’t do things because I said it!
