Recently I have seen posts like “We need this or that kind of music on the station blabla” and that always make me wonder. As far as I remember, and you know my brain isnt confused at all, I never asked genre wise in public. I might have asked artists directly if they can submit a song. That happens when I discover them before they discover me and I really WANT and LOVE their music! But other than that I might be too shy to ask out in public. Plus somehow it feels really cool when an artist discover your station!
How Important Are Submissions?
Very! Yes really it is very important. Our little Indie radio stations are also not living like millionaires. We count on artists and really depend on submissions. I get often asked why dont you buy the songs? Well simple answer. Since 2018 I have added around 60000 songs to the station. Now imagine I would have to buy them all. 60k songs x 1,20 € (for each song) = 72000 €. I’d be happy if I would have that money. So yeah we need submissions very much.
That might be one of the reasons other stations ask those question I mentioned at the start.
Why Do I Still Research On Bandcamp?
Well I dont want to sound like everyone else. I want that unique sound of TFSC. A mix of etablished indies of our TFSC Family and some unknown and/or even disbanded bands. But once again, even here I dont buy a lot of those songs. I mostly get those who have this “Name Your Price” thing. You know I am not a millionaire! Also it can happen that I ask those I artists which are still active if they want to submit their music to TFSC.
So Thats The Thing About How To Get Music
Yes thats it. Pretty easy. Right? Just one last thing. Try to support those indies as much as possible. Talk about them with your friends, show them a cool song you have discovered and hey go to their concerts, buy the merch and all that things. Without indies we will lose the underground of the entire music house. It will crash and in the end we will have only AI bullshit. And we dont want that!
