I Get Often Asked “Whats Metadata”

Lately it happens very often. I open the mp3 files of submissions and get totally wrong or empty metadata. It is important to fill it out correctly. And that does NOT mean to name the file right!
I wonder how it comes so many don’t even know what it is. For me it feels like a car driver asks me “Whats a steering wheel”. You should know it for certain reasons.
1. Most radio stations don’t accept songs with wrong metadata
2. If one accept it and doesn’t work on it, you only would see “unknown song by unknown artist” in their player
3. most radioadmin databases doesn’t accept wrong metadatas

How Do I Tag My Files Correctly?

I use for example “Tag Editor Free”. It is pretty simple build up. You press there “Open File”, choose the mp3 you want to work on and tada you will get this screen.

Now it is simple to work on it!
Artwork: Press this field and you can choose the artwork for your song (Best use the one you have created for it)
Title: Well the name says it! Type in the title of your song
Artist: Your artist/band name
Album: If it is part of an album or ep type in the name of it
Genre: Not necessary but useful for radio stations if they search in genre for certain line ups
Album Artist: well yeah look at “Artist” if it is a compilation there would be time to type in “Various Artists”
Comment: Here you can type in whatever you want, some type in here the ISR-Code
File Name: Is already filled in. This is the mp3 file name. At best you only have the song title there or plus the artist name
Year: The year the song was created
Track #: Not necessary, only if it is part of an album/ep

Now after you have filled in everything press “Save” and bam you have the correct metadata in your mp3 file
See it isn’t that difficult.
